Spring has sprung y’all, and you know what that means: summer’s right around the corner! We all know that with warm weather comes festivals, and with festivals comes great style, so last week we decided to ask the experts over at American Threads to weigh in. Located on Hull Street and nestled between some of the best grub in Athens, this hip stop is home to styles that embody Athens’ young and free spirit. But don’t just take our word for it: check out their interview below for more on what it means to be a Threads Girl and how Athens inspires them.
What does it mean to be a Threads Girl?
Being a Threads Girl is more than simply dressing cool and “trendy.” A Threads girl has an adventurous outlook on life and an effortless style that manifests a free spirit. Threads girls own the night, live for music and travel, and keep a badass approach to everything.
What’s your favorite part about being located in Athens?
Being in Athens is the best because Athens embodies a vibe perfectly parallel to the essence of a “Threads Girl.” Athens revolves around music, food, sports, and nightlife. Basically, Athens is a cultural hot spot to hit up for the party. When you walk around Athens, you see creativity, drive, education, art, and so much more. The streets of Athens tell a story; and when the town is alive, it’s unexplainable. Athens is such a forward thinking town…especially being in the south. It’s amazing to live in a town where we can cater to girls who understand and live in such a bohemian culture.
Describe your ideal Athens day:
An ideal day in Athens would definitely include rocking a wild outfit—maybe all crochet, a floppy hat, and fringe booties—and hanging out at one of the many awesome local breweries. For most of us Threads Girls, live music is the best. And dank food is our biggest guilty indulgence. So I guess you could say the perfect day/night would include cool clothes, beer, food, and music. The Theatre usually does us right.
Style tips for this upcoming festival season?
I think people get an unrealistic sense of “festival style.” As a frequent festival attendee, looking cool is a must, but so is comfort. That’s why flowy shorts, jean shorts, crop tops, and baby doll dresses are so great. For festival season, don’t overthink it; matching isn’t even a must. Throw on some of our comfy shorts, a crochet crop, and tons of layered jewelry. Tie a flannel or sweater around your waist to add some grunge and help out if it gets cold.
If you could have one person/celeb be featured on your Instagram or hit up Athens with ya, who would it be?
Mimi Elashiry: She has the most perfect inherent style any human could have. And she’s super cool.
Last but not least, let us know about future events that you’re excited about and think we should know about!
There are always a ton of fun upcoming events in Athens. Brewfest, Twilight, and Athfest are all great festivals that we love catering to. There are tons of upcoming shows at the Theatre such as My Morning Jacket, Tyler the Creator, Keller Williams, Dumpstafunk , and P-groove. I encourage everyone to check out our stuff for these shows…we got what ya need. We’re potentially vending at Shaky Knees and Bonnaroo…sssshh. We’ll make an official announcement upon our decision. For all you attendees, come see us!
